Catch Arctic in the South at SM Dasmariñas

Arctic in the South

The world is full of wonderful things, but not many of us will get to see all of them in this lifetime. Thankfully, we have a chance to experience some of them through immersive exhibits that are almost true-to-life.

At SM Supermalls, the elusive Arctic region is brought to life through its Arctic in the South exhibit, which launched at SM City Dasmariñas earlier in July.

The expansive centerpiece occupying the mall’s atrium sets shoppers on a thrilling and chilling journey to the Arctic region, one of the coldest places on Earth where exotic wildlife thrive.

This giant interactive display features life-size replicas of Arctic animals such as the polar bear, Arctic fox, Beluga whale, seal, Pacific walrus, orca, caribou (reindeer), humpback tail whale, and emperor penguins. Some of the replicas are equipped with mechanical parts, allowing them to move their head or tail for a more realistic feel.

Aside from the attraction being an adorable backdrop for a selfie or family photo, it also serves as a reminder for us to care for our planet more.

All the animals featured in the exhibit belong to UN Habitat’s endangered Arctic animals list. The centerpiece also fosters learning through facts and trivia related to the Arctic setting and the natural habitat of featured animals through school tours at the mall.

Arctic in the South is made in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). SM joins WWF in its mission to save the environment and reduce the threats to the diversity of life on Earth.

After its three-week run in SM City Dasmariñas, which will end on August 12, the exhibit will travel through 15 other SM South Luzon malls. Check out the complete schedule below:

See an ART-ic HUE-niverse at SM North Luzon malls

SM North Luzon Art-ic Hue-niverse

Ever wondered how big polar bears actually are? Well, you don’t need to travel all the way to the Arctic regions just to find that out.

Art meets nature and environmental awareness in ART-ic HUEniverse, a wildlife preservation campaign by SM’s North Luzon malls in Baliwag, Marilao, and Pulilan in Bulacan, as well as Sangandaan and Valenzuela in the northern outskirts of Metro Manila.

A joint project of SM’s North Luzon Malls, the World Wildlife Fund, and Boysen, ART-ic HUEniverse aims to help create awareness about the plight of animals in the arctic, especially polar bears, due to climate change.

It features colorful art installations representing life-sized polar bears as big as 4 feet in height and 8 feet in length. While raising awareness, it also hopes to bring moments of connection between people and wildlife in one unique experience.

The Polar bears reimagined in motion are uniquely crafted in hues of triangular colorful pastels revealed in a 26 x 30 feet set up inspired by a futuristic Memphis and Plexis Art. Giving color to the meaningful attraction is Boysen Philippines, through the brilliant strokes of young and talented painters from Guhit Pinas Bulacan Chapter.

The attraction also infuses technology with the use of QR codes, which you can scan on your mobile device to get trivia about the Arctic world courtesy of international non-governmental
organization World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Children and their parents can learn a few facts about polar bears and other wildlife, and the programs WWF has in store for the Arctic through the convenience of your own device.

World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is recognized for its strong effort in preserving wildlife in the arctic such as polar bears through the Arctic program. Some of their goals are to work with communities throughout the arctic to help them deal with the effects of climate change, support research, and support patrols around the Arctic to keep people and polar bears faring as the climate changes.
WWF also advocates for a full switch to renewable energy and to protect the Arctic habitats.

ART-ic HUEniverse recently held its initial run in SM City Baliwag on July 18-24. It will move to SM City Marilao on July 26 to August 1, followed by SM Center Sangandaan on August 12-18, SM City Valenzuela on August 19-25 and SM Center Pulilan on August 27 to September 2.
